COPE - Ways To Help

Ways To Help

Last year you helped COPE assist more than 1280 families in Douglas County by providing $4 Million in rent and utility assistance, 2000 family food baskets, along with clothing, household products, financial health and education opportunities, and many more services.

There are many ways your generous support allows us to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need. You can make a tax-deductible monetary donation online or by mail, volunteer your time and talents to support our community outreach services, or register as a supporter to stay informed about more ways to get involved.

More about getting involved with COPE

Your Monetary Donation helps provide services to families in western Douglas County seeking support in times of financial crisis through the following programs –

  • Emergency Services: COPE offers temporary services to help stabilize immediate crisis situations concerning food, clothing, housing, and utilities.
  • Special Community Distributions: COPE supports the community by offering special distributions through our Christmas gifts, extra meals around Christmas and Easter,  and Backpacks with school supplies. These programs are there for families and individuals who struggle at specific times of the year.
  • Fighting Rural Hunger: COPE distributes over 1680 family food baskets to our neighbors each year. Baskets includes non-perishable staples, meat (when possible) and often fresh vegetables from COPE’s garden. Our focus is to ensure a family of four has enough food for an entire week. In addition, households can receive bread and fresh groceries. COPE has a new partnership with Saving Grace Food Rescue which delivers fresh food year round.
  • Financial Assistance: COPE provides rent and utility assistance for individuals. Last year, 600 households received financial assistance to prevent a homeless episode or keep utilities connected.
  • Training Classes: COPE offers assistance to help people complete job searches and resumes, budget classes, home energy savings.
  • Donations to COPE can be mailed to: Christian Outreach Program – Elkhorn, P.O. Box 177, Elkhorn, NE 68022
Donate Clothing and Food – Gently-used clothing donations assist individuals and families with immediate coats and clothing. Household items like sheets, towels, dishes etc. help financially struggling families keep their dignity. You can donate your non-cash items with the confidence of knowing that your donation will stay and assist families right here in western Douglas County. By donating non-cash items you are keeping thousands of pounds of clothing and furniture out of area landfills and blessing families right here in our community.

We do not accept furniture donations. That’s the bad news. The good news is we’re partnered with folks who are doing the furniture thing, and they’re doing it right. If you have furniture to donate, we suggest The Furniture Project.
Volunteer to sort clothes, help with the food pantry, or use your talents to help others.  COPE is a volunteer-run organization.  Without your help COPE would not be able to assist families, distribute food and bread, or get clothing to those in need.  Thank you for your support of COPE.
