Talk to your landlord
Keeping lines of communication open with your landlord or property management is key when it comes to rental agreements and payments. If you are concerned your rent will be late or you will not be able to pay in full, it’s important you know what your landlord’s eviction procedures are. They might be willing to accept a partial payment, open to mediation or delaying eviction notices.
Know your rights and responsibilities
Educate yourself about your rights as well as the ramifications of being formally evicted. A filed eviction will show when prospective landlords run your record. An actual eviction on record can be very detrimental when looking for a new apartment.
Have you received an eviction notice?
If you receive a 7-day notice, you must pay your balance within seven days. At the end of those 7 days, your landlord can file an eviction case. You are obligated to vacate your premises only if the judge issues such an order.
